Guwahati (Assam) [India], July 17 (ANI): Assam Minister and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader Atul Bora said that Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the state would not have much impact in the 2026 assembly polls.
Speaking to the media, Bora claimed that Rahul Gandhi’s visit will have a negative impact on the Congress party.
“His visit will have no impact. It will not have any positive impact. It will have a negative impact. What would happen if he visited? Congress works only on one system,” he said.
He stated that a significant amount of work has been accomplished under the present government in the last four years in the state, which was never done in the past since India’s independence.
Earlier on Wednesday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers staged a protest on Wednesday against Rahul Gandhi during his visit to Assam’s Kamrup district. The protest took place in the Bongaon area, close to where the Congress meeting was held. Protesters waved placards and shouted slogans targeting Rahul Gandhi, expressing strong opposition to his political presence in the state.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi said that Congress will sweep next year’s Assembly polls in Assam and launched a sharp attack on Himanta Biswa Sarma, saying he does not think of himself as Chief Minister but a “king”.
Addressing a rally in Chhaygaon, Rahul Gandhi said that the party has a new team in the state under the leadership of party MP Gaurav Gogoi, and it will deliver results.
“The people of Assam know the truth. There will be elections soon, and the Congress will sweep those elections. We have created a new team here. We have started the work, and the people of Assam will soon see the results. We will see it,” he said.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also addressed the gathering.
Gaurav Gogoi earlier told ANI that Congress in Assam will fight for justice for all people who were living “under fear” and were facing persecution by the BJP government here. (ANI)
